PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
